Sassy Mermaid Designs, Art for the Island Soul
I am Laurie Weigold. Originally from Southeastern Wisconsin, I have been visiting Sanibel Island and the Fort Myers area since I was in high school. I fell in love and I couldn't wait to share the sand, ocean and soul inspiring experience that left a huge impression on my heart years before with my daughter! I knew then that I would eventually call this paradise home. In 2016, my dream came true - my husband and I became permanent residents in paradise!
During my life "up north", I studied art and marketing at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh and ultimately put my skills to use as a Marketing and Graphic Design Specialist with extensive involvement within my community including participation in many service organizations.
I am a mixed media artist - which means I use various mediums to break the boundaries between different art forms. I paint with acrylics and add embellishments of all sorts to create a special, memorable and whimsical island feeling for each one of my creations.
My work is currently in galleries in the Fort Myers and Matlacha areas and has been featured in retail locations around Fort Myers. I have done several commissioned pieces for clients from Naples, Illinois, Ohio, Canada and even Europe!
My daughter Kayla is my inspiration to create joy and love through my paintings - her lust for life, her beauty, her unconditional love, her strength, courage and the elegance of her soul will forever be the passion I feel while painting. Bringing the happiness and light and what is nestled deep within our souls to be who we truly are will always be as inspirational as Mother Nature's ocean breeze...
